The Last Man to Die on 9/11

Today’s NYT carries the story of Henryk Siwiak, a Polish immigrant who was murdered in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn while on his way to his first day at work, September 11, 2001. His murder remains unsolved, in part because the majority of police assets were understandably assisting in lower Manhattan that day. It is an interesting but sad story of what is best and worst in our modern cities: the human drive to improve one’s lot and the senseless violence that consumes it.
